Great Inventions # 6 – The Easter Edition

Here is another post in my series of Great Inventions where I remind you of some of the great inventions that have been made or perfected during my lifetime. Today since it is Good Friday I will tell you about some great Easter related inventions.

Peeps.

Nothing says Easter is here like the arrival of Peeps in the stores do. I have been enjoying these marshmallow surrounded by sugar and covered in food coloring treats since I was a kid. They used to only come at Easter time and in the shape of an little chickadee. Now Peeps are available in some form or fashion for all of the candy holidays. If you have never tried one of these, you lived under a rock as a kid. And these great treats have also taken over pop culture, just google "peeps" and see for yourself.

Jelly Beans.

I know you are thinking that these were invented way before I was born, and you are correct. However the ones which were made before I was born were boring and lacked flavor. The jelly beans available today come in many more flavors than they did when I was a kid. Now we have all kinds of great flavors like grape, straw berry, peach, and Dr Pepper. Love them or hate them, you have to respect their greatness.

The Jesus Toaster.

I am sure you have all seen on the news occasionally how someone will see an image of Jesus on a rock, a pizza, a cake, a shadow, or some other strange place. Well now you can make your very own image of Jesus right on your very own breakfast toast. Just think of all of the friends you could make if you had this toaster available here. And even if you don’t make friends from having this toaster, look on the bright side you can at least have The Father, The Son, and The Holy Toast for breakfast.

Well I hope you have enjoyed another round from my series of Great Inventions.

  1. I loved Peeps as a kid, but man, oh, man - do they ever gross me out now! I think you should have added the Cadbury Chocolate egg - filled with that yummy filling of God only knows what (1000% sugar is all I know!). And that toaster is Hilarious!! Hope you have a great Easter weekend!

  2. love the first two the third had me going "say what" but dang now i want peeps and jelly beans.

  3. I literally lol'd at the Jesus toaster! I'd never seen that before! haha. I hate peeps with a serious passion...but I get their appeal. My sisters love to let them sit out until they get a little stale-or microwave them for shits and giggles. Anyway. As far as jelly beans go nothing is better for me than the "just born" jelly beans-SO good! Another great post! :) Happy Easter!

  4. I lived under a rock as a kid.
I've had regular marshmallows though and am not a fan of those.

  5. I want that toaster.

And <3 for peeps and jelly beans. I'll take the black ones, if nobody else wants em...

  6. I just saw a special on Peeps (love Peeps) on the (you guessed it) Food Network. Not only are they made less than an hour from my house, but there's a version where the little dudes sit down in a puddle of chocolate. I still like the classic Peep, but chocolate is a nice twist.
    Ditto on the jelly beans.
Gotta get me a Jesus toaster. Amen.

  7. Peeps rock! The Jesus Toaster is in our shopping cart on amazon waiting for purchase - it's a gift for a friend - but I want to make a few slices and sneak them into my mother-in-laws stack of toast one morning. Can you see the possibilities?!?!

  8. peeps and jelly beans, dring on that damned bunny!

  9. JESUS TOASTER!!! SWEET!!

    (no cadbury creme eggs?)

  10. @ Reck, I can't stand Peeps now either.

@ Becca, I want some Jelly Beans as well.

@ Jewels, I am glad you liked the toaster.

@ Ruth, I am sorry. Go and try some now.

    @ Lass, thank you.

@ Lost, I hate the black jelly beans. But in fairness I hate the white ones as well.

@ Al, you should take a tour of their plant. That would be a fun experience.

@ Laughingmom, let me know how the toaster turns out.

    @ Baygirl, I hear you.

@ Yandie, yes it is sweet. And I forgot about those eggs.

  11. Never heard of peeps but I want to try one but the holy grail is the jesus toaster, my mother would love that.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've not seen the Jesus toaster til now, but I've been wanting the Darth Vader toaster in a bad way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. @ Lurker, I am not sure if they have them in the UK or not. But the toaster is something I am sure you could get shipped there.

@ Brandy, I also want the Vader toaster.

  14. Never had Peepers - they are now officially on my "food bucket list."

Love Jelly Beans - when I go anywhere that has one of those Jelly Bean dispensers, where you put in a quarter and get a few, I always stop and savour them and take a little "bean break."

Now, as to that toaster - I draw the line! No images of any kind will darken my toast. (too bazaar!)

    Have a wonderful Easter weekend,
    Jenny

  15. Seen the Peeps but don't care for them except how cute they look! LOL! Dr. Pepper jelly beans? OMG! Gotta go find them!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've never liked peeps myself. Except for melting them in the microwave that is.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The trick is to melt the jelly beans and pour them over the peeps and sanwich the concotion between two pieces of Jesus toast slathered in peanut butter. Think I'm kidding? Serve that with a Guiness!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Major thumbs down on the peeps but I do love me some jelly beans. The toaster is genius. You just know some dumbwit out there will unknowingly see the toast and think it was a divine act of holiness, which then presents the question: which came first the toaster or the jesus toast?

    ReplyDelete
  19. @ Pearson, Peeps are ok in very small quantities.

@ Cajun, yes you should find those Dr Pepper flavored ones.

@ TS, I have never tried that. Maybe I should.

@ Bushman, you are a genius!!!!

@ Empress, that is exactly why I posted it.

  20. Those candies certainly go way way back. I've never enjoyed eating them, but they made my easter basket look so good. And I'd just give the stuff I didn't like to my father. I will pass on the toaster. I don't really need to see that on my toast prior to smathering it with butter and jelly!! Fun post OT.

  21. I so totally LOVE the Starburst jellybeans. YUM. I liked Peeps as a kid, but ate so many of them I got sick and have not touched another one since.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Woo hoo for Peeps and Bunny Poops.

Dead guy on bread? Not so much.

    ReplyDelete
  23. love the name of the toaster, Daily Bread LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. @ Barb, I know how you feel. Thanks.

@ Tawnya, I like them as well.

    @ Rabbit, lol.

@ Melinda, I liked it as well.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Peeps-yum. Jelly Beans-more yum. Jesus toast-um, yeah, I dunno about that one. Although, it has a clever name.

    Happy Easter, Mr. OT! :)

  26. First, I love the toaster and must must have one. They need one that makes boob toast so you boys could have a happy morning every morning. Just my opinion though. Not sure how I made it from Jesus to boobs but I did so deal with it. Speaking of boobs, mine are up today as part of your made up rules for the Nice Rack award. I'm sure the interwebs thank you.

  28. I'll have to pass on the peeps. But I don't think I can pass on the JC toaster. Too awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  29. @ Virgin, I know what you mean.

@ Randomgirl, yes they should have a boobie toaster. And I saw the pic and commented on it.

@ Mike, ok I will check it out.

    @ Manager, thanks.

@ Lemmiwinks, I am glad I could get you to laugh.

  30. I wonder if they make a Moses toaster too. Probably not, especially not during Passover. Drats.
    Have a good weekend.

  31. The toaster is hilarious, but Peeps are pure genius.

    ReplyDelete
  32. i like the first two, but the third one is blasphemy. jk.

    ReplyDelete
  33. @ Robyn, I am pretty sure that they make a Moses as well.

    @ Tim, thank you.

    @ E, lol

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ya know, I think I will take a tour. I've already visited the Hershey plant. A tour of Peep City would rock!

    ReplyDelete
  35. @Robyn: they used to make a Moses toaster, but the bread would burst into flames.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Like a burning bush...? Oh, crap, it's never a good sign when you have to explain a joke. I guess that means that that joke sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh, love me some peeps. And the starburst jelly beans are the best. I am hoping since we will get back to the states a bit after Easter here, I can get all the candy super discounted. OH stale peeps, you are the best! haha. Have a great Easter!

    ReplyDelete
  38. LOL @ Al

I love peeps... try roasting them sometime... YUMMY!!! Jelly beans I can do without. For some reason I just don't feel comfortable eating anything with the face of Jesus on it, however very funny, but kinda creeps me out at the same time. I know.. I'm strange.

  39. Hey Oil,

  41. @ Al, your joke was hilarious.

@ Tex, I love the starburst ones as well. They are awesome. I hope you can get some when you come across the pond.

@ Rosie, I am glad you at least thought it was funny.

@ Bushman, I saw that. And thank you.

@ Bruce, same here. I have had the jalepeno ones and I loved them.

  42. I gave you another award, but you have gotten it before so you don't have to play along unless you just WANT to because you LIKE me and all that stuff....mmm k? Peace out!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I bet Jesus is at the height of his pride with being on that toaster.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I laughed so hard upon seeing the "Daily Bread" toaster that I ran to my room and pulled out the rosary beads! LMAO! Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  45. @ Rosie, I know I just saw it. And I commented on it.

@ Rico, I am sure that there is other stuff that pisses him off more than being on a toaster.

@ D'Artagnan, I am glad you got a good laugh at it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jesus Toaster?? Funky!! The possibilities are truly endless with that one!! :P
I've passed on a couple of awards to you... I'd love for you to drop by and pick them up.. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. The holy toast!!! That's a classic...
I'm not a huge fan of the advances in jelly beans. My favorite was always the licorice flavored ones. There seem to be many less of them now...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Stay tuned, later this week, for my Peeps recipe, yo. You, of all people, should love the Holy Toast. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Easter inventions and you didn't say anything about Reese's Eggs?

Now Peeps? I think that I'd rather eat shards of broken glass.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We don't have peeps here in Australia nor Jesus toasters for that matter. Life sure is dull.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I don't eat peeps, but my family and I collect them throughout the year (various seasons) to make sure we have a sufficient quantity to do peep-o-ramas at Easter. It's a great project. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. "Our daily bread".

There are some sick fucks in the world, there really are.

    ReplyDelete
  53. @ Pencilgirl, I will have to go check them out.

@ Pat, the toaster is hilarious. And I don't like the licorice ones so I like the advances in jelly beans.

@ Dawn, ok I will keep my eye out for it.

@ Teach, I thought about them after I posted this one.

@ Tracey, I truly feel sorry for you.

@ Sam, that right there sounds like a lot of fun.

@ Katsidhe, yes there is a lot of them in the world.

    ReplyDelete
  54. @ Stephanie, I forgot about the mini eggs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I really need to get a Jesus Toaster. That is simply amazing! I never knew such a thing existed. And how can you beat a steal like that for 40 dollars?

    ReplyDelete
  56. @ LAX, 40 bucks does seem cheap for holy bread.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'll skip the candy, but you got me at the toaster. Too funny!

    ReplyDelete
  58. @ Kernut, thank you. A lot of people have liked that toaster.
