GPS.
I think that GPS or the Tom-Tom or whatever you want to call it, has helped a lot of clueless people out. No not me as I was born with GPS, but other poor hapless souls who are piss poor with directions. Think about it, you can have a little box on your dashboard which you can easily see and it also tells
The Internet.
Even though I hate to give credit to Al Gore, I would have to say that this is the greatest invention of all time. Just look at the wealth of information out there on the internet, not to mention the stuff you can do from home. You can change your address, renew your driver’s license (and not have to wait in line behind 30 unclean nasty people and deal with the angry government worker), read the news, shop, cyber stalk, research for papers, etc. So many things that you used to have to actually leave your house to do. You can read news from far far away, follow up on your favorite sports team, and keep in touch with friends and family. I could write a thousand things about how great the internet is.
Digital Cameras.
As an avid photographer my whole life, I think that the digital camera has affected me the most as a technology. I love taking pictures everywhere I go of vacations, friends, my kids and their adventures, scenery and pretty much anything and everything. I used to spend a ton of money on getting film developed, and now I spend very little money on printing off pictures. Yes I understand that the film industry has lost a lot of money with the invention of digital camera and essentially gone out of business, but it was worth it to me. You can even take naughty pictures now and not have to worry about getting them developed anymore. Hell that was the whole reason for the creation of the Polaroid. Plus with digital pictures combined with the internet it can make sharing pictures with family and friends so easy. Can anyone tell me the last time they actually used snail mail to send a picture to someone? Such a great invention the digital camera was.
Well I think that should be enough to keep your mouth watering for a while. Keep an eye out for another post in my series of great inventions.
I completely agree. And sadly, I am one of those dumbasses that needs a GPS like all the time. Even when I go somewhere I've been a few times.
ReplyDeleteI send actual film pictures to my friend in prison all the time but besides that probably never! All my millions of pictures are stored now in files on disc of in my external HD, or flash device or something digital. I love technology although it doesn't always love me!
ReplyDeleteAll worthy inventions. I'd throw the DVR / TIVO in there as well. I am a TV & movie junkie and nothing has aided my lazy lifestyle (it's a choice, deal with it) more than my DVR. It even makes the naughty movies easier to watch.

Mash, I am sorry.
ReplyDeleteSSW, are those pics you send to your pal in the pen spank worthy? lol
ReplyDeleteSimpledude, those are coming as well. I have a large list of great inventions yet to be posted.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite invention remains the iPod Touch. I just absolutely LOVE it, and think it's the best thing ever. It's a toy, it's a mini computer, it's an internet access (wherever there's wifi) it's my music, it's my sleeping aid (the thunder storm buries any kind of snoring) and I just want to cuddle with it, but I don't because it's not soft and furry...
ReplyDeleteNikki, sounds like you need to invent a soft and furry cuddle case for the iPod touch and sell it. Then you could retire.
ReplyDeleteI like how you mentioned cyber stalking as a good use of the internet... ha ha..
ReplyDeletealthough, I have been cyber stalked and it's not really all that nice :(
1. I'm disappointed in your lack of bayou tom-tom mention. I'd also like to disagree with your absolute knowledge of direction EVEN IF FACED WITH A DIFFICULT CITY SUCH AS NOLA.
ReplyDeleteI will say, however, that it's a good invention. Perhaps not as useful to men, such as yourself, as a radar detector, but still good.
2. The internet for sure. I think it hit its peak in early April of 2008 in terms of usefulness, however.
3. You are a great photographer :)
I agree - fab invention, that there digital camera. Way faster to share things than carrier alligators.
Blogger, well I was half heartedly kidding about the stalker part. The woman I lost my virginity to has cyber and real life stalked me for years. It is a tad bit annoying.
ReplyDeleteMiley oh Miley,
ReplyDelete1. If I had printed off a map or had been given GOOD directions from the hotel staff, I would not have gotten lost.
2. No the internet has been useful well before and well after April of 2008.
3. Yes I am a good photographer.
No, April 2008 was when it hit its peak. Promise.
ReplyDeleteNo fortunately they don't allow me to sent naughty pics to prisoners nor would I lol even though I know him and he is my friend. It's usually just everyday pictures that of things he hasn't seen in ten and won't see for 15 more years...(not including vajayjay's or ta-ta's)lol
ReplyDeleteAh ok, well that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteYou should send him a picture of what the prison looks like from outside of the fence. lol j/k
Your comments over at Simple Dude continue to amuse me to no end! Consider me an official fan now. Feel free to stop by my blog if you are ever in the mood for snarky.
ReplyDeleteI'm growing more fond of the internet as time passes. And yes, if it means not having to stand in some nasty line in a government office then awesome!
Digital cameras are great for sharing pictures although 'some' people may have taken naughty picture and actually taken them in to the store to be developed ; )

Nice post, OT. I especially like your justification of the digital camera's greatness. I just renumbered my wishlist because of you. xo
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for the internet I'd still be reading Maxim for porn. TMI?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more. The Garmin is a blessing. I don't know what I would do without it...or what I did before it. Oh yes I do...I got lost...a lot!
ReplyDeleteHow can you write anything about the internet and its wonderfulness and NOT mention the access to porn!? I'm shocked and appalled.
Digital cameras are amazing! Love the list and can't wait for more of your favorites.
Empress, thanks for stopping by. I am reading your blog now.
ReplyDeleteRobyn, I am glad I was able to help you remember your wish list.
ReplyDeleteAnd I offer discounts on photography for redheaded Jewish women. lol
Copyboy, what is sad is I have the internet and I still have a subscription to Maxim.
ReplyDeleteJewels, I have the porn covered in a future post. Trust ME!!!! I have 7 future posts for this topic already written for future use.
ReplyDeleteSomehow you forgot to mention Porn. That combined with the internet is the best invention. Add sliced bread into the mix and it would be unstoppable.
ReplyDeleteToastman, porn will be covered in a future post.
ReplyDeleteThe internet! :) And yes, digital cameras. VERY VERY good ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Annah. Your blog is hilarious by the way.
ReplyDeleteI am so grateful for all of these inventions and twice as grateful they all came along after my " rocky adventurous years". Or I am pretty sure all 3 of those would have combined in a hellish mess where a digital picture of my ass showed up on somebody's gps thanks to the internet.
ReplyDeleteAll worthy inventions, I'll give you that. I notice that you don't mention the hot glue gun. That WAS you, right?
ReplyDeletePearl
Peachy, If I had a GPS and it showed womens asses all day long and the directions to them I am pretty sure I would have an accident.
ReplyDeletePearl, ah the hot glue gun. The weekend hobbyists loyal sidekick. Or the BDSM worlds loyal torture tool. That is a good invention as well.
ReplyDeleteIt cracks me up that Al Gore "invented" the internet. Hahahahahaha...
ReplyDeleteI had NO IDEA you could use the internet for all that stuff - here I was simply using it for blogging and porn. Huh.
ReplyDelete@ Cajun, Do you remember when he actually said that?
ReplyDelete@ Dr, I will cover the internet (ie porn, chinese hookers, etc) in more detail in a future post.
ReplyDeleteGoodness, I am rubbish at coming up with ideas for these things. Though I would say that the off switch is one of my favourite inventions.
ReplyDeleteI assume your comments about women needing sat navs is a little joke?
Your blog colours are just dandy, by the way :)
Baglady, yes my comment about women was a joke.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for the compliment on the blog layout.
